Wagaya
Inspired by the foliage of Japanese cherry blossoms and the passage it create during Hanami (flower viewing) season, we took inspiration from the overlaying of textures, colour, smell and experience to create a transitional space.

Using the passage as a form generator, we took advantage of the original structure of the shop and created a transitional experience from the spatial and inviting façade with high open ceiling to a more intimate atmosphere inside.
Based on the idea picnic under the cherry blossom trees, we created a passage in the shape of a semi-circle to resonate with the shape of the façade allowing a more fluent language throughout the space.
The tunnel is painted soft pink to illustrate the feeling of falling soft cherry blossoms and is counter balanced by the use of bold textured cobalt blue tiles to create a contrast in the space.
Further emphasizing the notion of overlaying of textuality, perforated timber panels are used around the kitchen area to create the sense of food aroma permeating throughout the space, emphasizing the overall ambience and experience of the space.
